New investment to upgrade existing engine production line; new jobs to add third shift
Buffalo, W.Va. (February 18, 2021) – To help meet customer demand, Toyota Motor Manufacturing West Virginia (TMMWV) will invest $210 million to upgrade existing engine production and add 100 new jobs to increase assembly capacity of its four-cylinder engine line. Once complete, TMMWV’s total investment will be more than $1.8 billion and total employment will exceed 2,000.
“Today’s announcement represents Toyota’s continued commitment to our customers as well as our community,” said TMMWV President Srini Matam. “We are thrilled to expand our Toyota family and continue our long-standing commitment to provide top-quality engines and transmissions for our customers.”

“Manufacturers know firsthand the challenges in finding skilled labor in West Virginia. CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The West Virginia Manufacturers Association praises House of Delegates leadership for elevating the manufacturing industry to major committee status.
In organizational meetings of the West Virginia House of Delegates today the former House Committee on Energy, a major committee, added an additional area of focus to become the House Committee on Energy and Manufacturing.
“We are thrilled and supportive of the House focus on manufacturing in the 2021 legislative session,” WVMA President Rebecca McPhail said. “The link between energy and manufacturing is inextricable, so this expanded direction for the committee makes a lot of sense. Not only do our members rely on affordable energy to run their operations, they also are major players in the downstream applications of West Virginia’s fossil energy resources.”
